Potential Risk of Cooking with Tap Water and Salt

Home / News / Potential Risk of Cooking with Tap Water and Salt

According to a recent study, cooking with chlorinated/chloraminated water can react with your food and ingredients producing potentially harmful toxins in your food.

This is due to the fact when iodized table salt is added to tap water that is chlorinated or chloraminated during the cooking process, it can react and create hypoiodous acid. This acid can potentially react with other foods and organic matter to create iodinated disinfection by-products (I-DBPs) in the form of toxic molecules. Some of these molecules were found to be 50 to 200 times more toxic than others. Studies are still being conducted at this time to determine the full extent of how it affects our health.
